The new State Minister for Cooperatives Hon. Frederick Gume called upon members of the Cooperative movement to participate in planting trees and contribute to environmental protection and mitigation against climate change. Gume said this while launching the nationwide annual tree planting drive at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives offices at Farmers House in Kampala, on Friday 30th June, 2016, ahead of the 94th UN International Day of Cooperatives celebrations that would take place on Saturday 2nd July, 2016 in Nakaseke District. Members of the Cooperative Movement turned up in big numbers on Monday 27th June, 2016 to participate in the blood donation drive across the country, ahead of the 94th UN International Day of Cooperatives. The blood donation is one of the activities during the National Cooperatives Week. Other activities include National prayers, delivery of a Cooperatives 5-year Agenda Petition to the 10th Parliament, the I.K. Launch of National Cooperatives Week
The first ever National Cooperatives Week was launched by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, ahead of the 94th UN International Day of Cooperatives Day celebrations scheduled for Saturday 2nd July, 2016. The launch took place at Constitutional Square in Kampala as members of the Cooperative Movement donated blood in fulfillment of the 7th International Cooperatives principle – “Concern for Community”. Uganda has Surplus Sugar
Uganda has a surplus of 36,000 metric tonnes of sugar. Background The Sudan is one of Uganda’s major coffee export markets. Uganda exports on average over 0.8m bags of coffee annually to Sudan, making it the leading importer of our coffee in Africa for the last 15 years. In May 2015, communication was received from the Sudan Standards Metrology Organization (SSMO) about the new regulations regarding the pre-shipment inspection of commodities imported into the Sudan which included coffee.
