World Chamber Federation Africa Summit in Nairobi

The Hon. MInister of State for Trade, is in Nairobi participating at the World Chamber Federation Africa Summit held at Raddison Blue Hotel, Nairobi Kenya, 9th to 10th April, 2024. The Summit was opened by H.E the President of Kenya. As a panelists presenting on; Possible strategies to integrate African businesses into Global Value Chains and Policy actions needed to accelerate AfCFTA Implementation for continent wide economic growth
At the sidelines of the Summit the Hon. Minister also held discussions with the Secretary General of the World Chamber Federation, on possible partnerships for MTIC and World Chamber Federation on creation of national Chamber Ugandan chapter. The Secretary General at the bilateral sideline meeting agreed to support Uganda on this agenda and has agreed to initiate a communication to the Ministry in a letter to be responded by the Ministry, highlighting the the key lead institution as an entry point of the world Chamber Federaty to Uganda. But also provide national position interms of Uganda’s possition on the current failing world trade order due to western actions and decisions including cuts on development assistance by the western world.
The Secretary General also promised to send a Technical team to Uganda to among others provide Technical Assistance to national efforts by MTIC to create a Chamber Federation body in Uganda.
He also had an opportunity to host a bilateral engagement meeting with the VP of Dubai Chamber of Commerce, in which the among others agreed to partner in attraction of FDI from Dubai to Uganda especially in the critical sectors of ICT Mineral beneficiation, hotelier, agro processing and value addition among others. Dubai VP of commerce appreciated the faster processes by the GoU to support businesses startups he indecated that they have so far attracted businesses worth 9bn USD to Uganda and pledged to do even better especially with the support of the Ministry. The Minister requested for support from the Dubai Chamber in setting up a national Chamber Federation for Uganda.
In regard to his submissions at the panel session at the Summit. the Hon. Minister highlighted Uganda’s Policy actions to support the AfCFTA framework both regionally and nationally. He presented Uganda’s initiatives to facilitate trade and contribute to ease of doing business in Uganda. He particularly highlighted initiatives such as OSBPs, energy for production, Free Zones, SGR, BEZ, One stop biz registration center, road infrastructure network, industrial parks, trade facilitation IT systems such as ECTS, e-SW among others.
