Ministry of Trade Holds 9th Sector Review Conference

On 31st October 2018, the ministry held its 9th sector review conference at Hotel African. The theme of the Review conference was “Enhancing Competitiveness of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises for National Export Development.

The theme for this year emphasized the contribution of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) towards the economic development of Uganda. The economic development of Uganda is premised on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The sector spreads across all sectors with 52% in service sector, 33% in commerce and trade, 10% in manufacturing and 8% in other sectors. MSMEs are the key drivers in fostering innovation, wealth creation and job creation with over 3.5 million employments making it the largest employer in the country. The MSMEs Enterprises account for approximately 90% of the entire private sector, with over 80% of manufactured output contributing 18% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
