AGOA Sensitisation Workshop And Exhibition 14th To 15th May 2019

Uganda is one of the beneficiary Countries of AGOA that was enacted on 18th May, 2000 as Public Law 106 of the 200th Congress and it was in June 2015 extended for another ten (10) years to 2025 and thus we have the opportunity to fully exploit this preferential market.

AGOA provides duty free quota free access to the US for sub-Saharan Africa for up to 6500 product lines under the US generalized system of preferences program.

By 2004, Uganda had already exported the following Ugandan products to the American market; Textile and apparel products, home decor, crafts, shea butter and leather shoes; among others.

From 14th to 15th May 2019,AGOA Office Uganda, The Ministry of Trade, The Parliament of Uganda,USAID and East Africa Trade Hub organized a sensitization workshop and exhibition under the theme READINESS TO MEET THE USA CONSUMER. The Speaker of Parliament RT.HON. REBBECCA KADAGA was the chief guest.

In her speech, the Minister of Trade Industry and Cooperatives highlighted the benefits of the program as

  1. Increased export revenue obtained by the enterprises;
  2. Employment opportunities within the Country;
  3. Increased utilization of raw materials; and,
  4. Inter-sector linkages will be harnessed within the economy, among others.
